Lunch Monitor

[Adrian Royce Walker]

He didn't know why a fancy private school like this didn't hire people as lunch monitors, but when he asked he was told something about how this helped improve teacher/student relationships, and helped made the students more comfortable to come to the faculty with things. He supposed that was kind of true, and probably a good thing since these kids were isolated without parents for most, if not all, the school year. But that didn't mean he wasn't bitter that it was his turn. And it was still early enough in the school year that he didn't quite remember which of these students were his, so all he could do was awkwardly wave back to kids that waved at him and greet the students he previously had who didn't hate him to the point of ignoring him.

Adrian paused where he was, awkwardly standing there and looking about for a second, putting his hands into his jacket pockets and trying to look like something more of an authority figure than he was. Or than he looked, really, because he'd been told he doesn't have the looks of a teacher at all. When he removed his hands from his pockets a candy -- a butterscotch something or another he'd gotten a bunch of sometime, and that weren't too bad -- and he took off the wrapper and stuck it in his mouth before beginning the next of his likely endless circulations around the cafeteria. This was going to be a long lunch; he could feel it.

Maia got her lunch and started to walk to her favorite table in the cafeteria. When she was almost at the table she hear a loud noise that came from a table with a bunch of seniors where sitting. Maia bumped into someone she looked up at a boy she thought also thought he was senior at the school. "Hey, dude watch where you going." as she rolled her eyes. she didn't know he was a teacher at the school. Then rush to the table because she saw someone going over to her favorite table by the window. Maia scooted in the chair just before a girl could sit down.

Leroy walked into the cafeteria for lunch and saw that it was crowded and mostly full of strangers. He nervously made his way to the lunch line, trying to hurry because it was getting longer by the second. He got his lunch quickly and, while looking around for a place to sit, he did see one face he recognized. It was that of Mr. Walker, his history teacher. He hesitated, as a rude girl pushed past the man. "Hi Master Walker" Leroy greeted, hoping that this wasn't a bad time. He wondered if the girl was about to get in trouble, and he kind of hoped that she would because that was just rude.

He actually didn't see her coming; he was too busy watching that rowdy table of seniors, wondering if he should go over and politely request they quiet it down a bit, and when she pushed past him, he nearly fell over. He was expecting some kind of apology -- after all, he was very obviously not in the student uniform and he was pretty sure he had less acne than the student body -- but instead he got berated. Adrian was honestly taken aback that he stood there, staring after her as she cut someone else off from a seat, and it took one of his students greeting him to get him out of whatever trance he was in.

The boy was from his... fourth period. He recognized the face. It took him a minute to fish for the name. "Hello Leroy. Have a good lunch." He nodded at the boy as he headed off; first to the senior table that was getting a little loud, where he told them to lower it a little, and then he made his way over to the table where the girl was sitting. He took a across from her, nonchalantly fingering the teacher ID he had pinned to his jacket, "So where did you learn that was appropriate behavior?"

Maia smiled when she saw someone went to yelled  at the seniors for being so loud. Then she looked  down a her book and started eating her lunch as she took out her English lit reading assignment. Maia knew that doing homework during school hours was not allow at Kellington but she didn't care at the moment. After a few minutes she felt the table move like someone just sat down across from her. Maia slowly moved her eyes to the spot across. That whens she saw the boy she bumped into but accused him that he was one who bumped into her. Then she notice he was playing a teacher badge on his suit jacket. Maia swallowed hard. Then he spoke to her. "So where did you learn that was appropriate behavior?" Oh no not another teacher who was piss at her she thought to herself. "Me, Myself, and I sir." said Maia with a smile. and she giggle a tiny bit. Then Maia realized her English homework was on the table and her hand. She hope Mr. walker wouldn't noticed her homework out all over the beside her lunch as well.

Leroy stood there just long enough to see that the girl was getting in trouble and then he looked around for a place to sit.  He eventually found a place at a table with several empty seats, a lonely place to sit but one where everyone was welcome.  He sat down and starred at his lunch, which didn't look very appetizing.  He was too nervous to try sitting next to anyone, but he hoped that someone would sit next to him, and he hoped that it would be a nice person, but he knew that that probably was not going to happen.

Aubrie walked cafeteria for lunch. She saw a brat freshman pushed a teacher and speaked rudely to him as well. She sigh and got her lunch for lunch line. And after getting her lunch she noticed the boy who she met in stables few days before was sitting alone. So Aubrie walked over to him and sat down across form him so they could talk to each other if he wanted too. "Is this seat taken?" as she set her tray down on the table. What do you think of that Freshman bumping into him and then blaming him for it?"

The sound of heels hitting the expensive tile floor could be heard throughout the school. Andria's thoughts were on how stupid it was to make teachers monitor the lunches. She was paired with a, Adrian Walker. She was still kind of new to everyone so, she wasn't sure who he was. The sounds of kids talking reverberated through her mind as well as the school.

Andria, or Ms. Fredricks, walked into the bustling cafeteria, ignoring the wolf whistles from some of the immature students. She saw her partner talking to a student and decided to go stand in the front of them all. She shivered as she walked under a vent, it was freezing! She had forgotten her jacket, well poop. She paced the aisles and waved at a few of her ballerinas.

So, this was how it was going to be. Adrian hated dealing with kids who could care less, and given that she didn't even try to hide her homework, he figured she could care less. He didn't look very impressed at her show of bravery, and he dropped his hands on the table and swallowed what was left of the butterscotch. For some reason, he didn't think it was very professional to reprimand a student with a piece of hard candy in his mouth. "Whether or not you work with me depends on what happens here. I didn't come over here with the intention to give any disciplinary action."

It was a warning, even if said in his usually jovial tones, and he gave a little half shrug. He noticed his fellow lunchroom prisoner enter the room, and he watched her for a second before looking back to the student in front of him. "Now, since you're here -- whether or not on a scholarship or because you bought your way in -- I know you're smart, so I imagine you know the proper response to bumping into someone."

Man this was worst then getting a yelling lecture that she usually got from other teachers in this stupid school she thought. Then he stop and looked at the other teacher who just walk in the cafeteria. After a quick look he looked back. "I know you are smart, so I imagine that you know to proper and response on bumping into someone."  Wow this new teacher is good for his age, she though. "Yes I know the right response to bumping into someone, but you the one who BUMP into me."she began to lied him and began to roll a. Piece of bread from her sandwich that she was eating. And then Maia threw it at Mr. Adrian Walker. Then Maia began to giggle in little girl way.

"No, go ahead" Leroy responded, in surprise, when she asked him if his seat was taken.  While he got over the surprise of someone sitting next to him, and it was someone that he had met before so she must have liked him, she asked about asked about the girl who bumped into Master Walker.  "That was so rude" he replied, glancing over to her table with a confused look growing on his face.  "Did she just throw food at him?"

Aubrie smiled and sat across from Leroy. "So Leroy how long have you been going to Kellington Academy?" as she pick up her fork and took a bit of her salad. Aubrie looked over to the brat freshman was sitting, and saw the teacher was still there talking to her. Then she saw the girl threw food at the teacher and laughed about it. "Yes she did Leory." Aubrie was getting so mad at the girl. "If I had right mind to march myself over there and slap in the girl in face, if there weren't any teacher around the cafeteria." she told Leroy. Then Aubrie took another bit of her lunch. "Where I came we treat our adults with respect all the time."

Adrian looked the furthest from amused, and it didn't sit right on his face. Or, well, it didn't fit naturally, even if he did just barely get the proper shade of disappointment. Still, he didn't really react, and if she was expecting an explosion of anger from the bread throwing, she picked the teacher with the smallest capacity to feel anger. "Right, so lying to a teacher and... Whatever that would be under an offense. Should I schedule your detention whenever I feel like it, or do you have a preferred detention day?"

Maia gulped when she hear the word detention. She looked down at the table. God I am stupid why do things to just get my parents attention. Now I am facing another detention, school just started now fourth detention week. "Umm Tuesdays and Thursday and every other weekend is because I am a swimmer" she said as she looked up at Mr. Walker.

"Not long" he answered.  "This is actually my first year.  What about you?" 

"Me too.  I was raised to respect everyone, elders most of all.  Maybe she wasn't as fortunate as us" he suggested.  He didn't like thinking of people as bad.  He often tried to see some good, or at least evoke some sympathy in people that he didn't like.  It didn't work on everyone.  Their were some people that he just couldn't help but dislike, but it did work on most people.
